Lady Stretch
STRETCH
Good specified stretch for piriformis and glutes, may help relieve pressure off SI joints
You’ll find this stretch zeroes in on the piriformis area where sciatica can impinge and become a nuisance. If you have never felt sciatic pain before, then this stretch will help in hopes that you will never have to!
You’ll know if you need this stretch in your life if, when performed, the area lights up like a Christmas tree.
Lay on your back with your knees up and your feet flat on the floor. Pick one leg up and cross it over until one knee sits on top of the other. Pick up your bottom foot, so both your knees come closer to your chest. Grab the shin underneath with both hands to pull your knees towards your chest. As always, breathe.
If this is easy for you, create more of a stretch in your back by sliding the back of your head along the floor, away from your hips. You can also add a light rocking motion, side to side, to relieve nearby tight spots in your hips.
Stay in this stretch for as long as you like and remember to perform it on both sides.
Side Note: The way your legs cross over in this stretch is how a lady sits, hence why I named it Lady Stretch.
QUICK REFERENCE:
1. Lay down with your knees up, feet flat on the floor. Your upper leg slides completely over your lower leg.
2. Grab with both hands around the lower shin to pull both legs towards your chest.
